The meeting which was chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta, was attended by senators from Jubilee Party and KANU. The new leaders were elected in a bid to resolve the coalition’s senate leadership. Uhuru also congratulated the newly elected leaders and assured them of his support in the days to come. He expressed his interest in working closely with the new senate leaders to deliver services to Kenyans.

According to Jubilee Party Constitution, a party leader can take disciplinary action against party members who are: disloyal to the party, have gross misconduct, are corrupt or show lack of respect to the decisions of the party, fail to carry out party directives or do any other thing that may bring the party into disrepute.

According to a local TV station, the president is said to be keen on gaining control of the house by replacing those deemed to be rebellious loyalists who will carry the government’s agenda.
