Japan PM names new Foreign Affairs, Defence ministers in reshuffle

Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Wednesday appointed Toshimitsu Motegi as the new Foreign minister, replacing Kono Taro, who moves to the Defence docket. Abe also appointed a rising political star, Shinjiro Koizumi, as the Environment Minister in a Cabinet reshuffle that has been seen as preparation for his successor when he steps down in 2021. The African Union (AU), today through a popular member vote, endorsed Kenya for a non-permanent membership to the United Nations’ Security Council. Kenya defeated Djibouti by a wide margin after garnering 37 votes against their rival who garnered 13 votes. The voting activity was in its second round. Amisom Troops Contributing Countries have urged the UNSC to increase its funding in the war against Al Shabaab in Somalia.
